Community Involvement
Mr. Hawkins has provided substantial services to the community.
From 1999 through 2004, he has served on the Environmental Quality Affairs Committee for the City of Newport Beach. The Committee assists the City Council in assessing environmental impacts and mitigation for projects within the City and projects outside of the City. From 2000 through 2004, he was appointed to serve as the Chairman of this Committee.
In addition, Mr. Hawkins has served on the City's Economic Development Committee from 2000 through 2004, and on the City's General Plan Update Committee from 2003 through 2004.
In 2004, Mr. Hawkins was appointed to the City of Newport Beach's Planning Commission. In June 2007, Mr. Hawkins was selected by the members of the Planning Commission to serve as its Chairman.
Between 1997 and 2003, he has served as an officer and director of the Seawind Newport Community Association. In 2000, he was elected to serve as President and Treasurer.
In 1989 through 1992, he received the Wiley W. Manual Award for Pro Bono Service for his work assisting in various projects including pro bono Social Security appeals.
